Early versions of the game had five "levels" of magic meter energy, with each level coloured distinctly.

A spell which absorbed melee damage, such as weapon impacts.
Magic Absorb
A spell which protected Kain from being damaged by enemies' spells.
The Shield and Other Mysteries
Was Kain supposed to obtain a metal shield, and find the Iron Sword somewhere in-game rather than start with it?

Additional Crypt Dungeons
Three additional crypt dungeons were originally featured as areas to be explored after Kain emerged from his mausoleum.

Original Avernus City
The city surrounding Avernus Cathedral was reworked dramatically in the months before the game was released.
Original Repel Dungeon
