The Death of Ariel

Near the end of the original Soul Reaver storyline, Raziel would fight Kain one last time (see The Final Battle with Kain). However, none of his abilities would have been sufficient to kill him. Raziel's only option was to use the Reaver to consume Ariel's soul, imbuing it with the necessary power.

This event is depicted in one of the Chronoplast FMVs. The location in which the FMV is set cannot be discerned; this may have been intentional in order to give the developers more flexibility when finalizing that portion of the game. Ariel cannot leave The Pillars during the normal course of the game, but the dialogue for the deleted sequences implies that her death may have occurred elsewhere - possibly at Kain's mountain retreat (see The Mountain Retreat).

Although deleted from Soul Reaver, this aspect of the storyline eventually made an appearance in Defiance.
