Slaves to The Device

The Device level had a fairly substantial plot element removed before release. Originally, Kain was to be aided by the human slaves of the Hylden in that area. The data files for the game include numerous dialogue clips related to this aspect of the level; the slaves plead with Kain, give him hints, and describe their part as energy sources for the weapon below. Selected parts of this dialogue are available at the end of this article.

It is currently uncertain why this aspect of The Device was removed from the game. Perhaps it was felt that the level wasn't difficult enough to warrant any additional help.

One piece of dialogue from this sequence lives on in some preview videos for the game - Kain saying "tell them Kain is coming".
