Turel

article by Ben Lincoln

Turel was the second of Kain's Vampire Lieutenants. After freeing the Human Citadel from The Priestess' influence, Raziel would have used his newfound Possession ability to travel to Turel's home, The Turelim Clan Territory and face the last of his brothers.

Turel's territory is present in at least three prototype versions of Soul Reaver: 1999-01-23, 1999-02-04, and 1999-02-16. His character model is included in the 1999-02-04 build, but does not seem to have complete logic for interacting with the game world and appears frozen in place. From the data in the prototype versions of the game, as well as the the dialogue between Raziel and Turel which is present in most versions of the game data, it is clear that defeating Turel would have required Raziel to raise the water level in a reservoir located above Turel's audience chamber, and then somehow cause that reservoir to drown Turel.

Consuming Turel's soul would have earned Raziel the Amplified Force Projectile ability.

When Turel was removed from the game, his dialogue was partially re-used for the mini-boss (described as "Morlock" in some official guides) from who Raziel acquires the standard Force Projectile power. "The Morlock Boss" was Turel's development codename (see Character Names).

Turel is visible in the opening FMV as one of the lieutenants who throws Raziel into The Abyss, and there is a coffin for him in The Tomb of The Sarafan.

Turel and his gift to Raziel were reintroduced to the series in Defiance.
