The Push and Test Rooms
Like most games, the developers of Soul Reaver built many special rooms for testing out various aspects of the game. Such areas are useful to programmers building a game engine, as they work to implement features which will be used by level designers. As in real life, a controlled environment is useful for debugging problems with those features and experimenting with modifications to the physics and other "rules" of the game world.
The PC version of Soul Reaver contains one of these rooms - "push 1" - which is accessible by hacking the game (see Hack Soul Reaver for the PC) or using The Debug Menu. Pre-release builds of the game contained many more of both the "push" rooms and another variety labelled "test".
"Push" seems to be a reference to the push-block puzzles, as such a frequently-used feature probably required extensive debugging. The "test" rooms contained a wide variety of objects and monsters, including several of the bosses.
