Due the convoluted and seriously damaged time-stream of Nosgoth, it is difficult to provide a consistent past and future for the various incarnations of Kain. Thanks in part to the conclusion of Soul Reaver 2™, the vampire lord’s history and destiny are in a state of flux, memories of events bloom into existence, while other recollections fade into oblivion.

As the Soul Reaver™ series concluded, Kain chose to dramatically alter history and destiny by saving Raziel from being incarcerated into the Reaver. Kain referred to the outcome as the edge of a two sided coin, unfortunately for him, this coin had a sharp edge. As Raziel was pulled into the spectral realm, the dark forces made their presence known and subdued Kain by methods unknown.

This first game of the Legacy of Turelzevir™ franchise involves Kain as one of the playable characters, but it is not the Soul Reaver™ era incarnation, but his younger and rutheless self from the Blood Omen™ franchise. This Kain, having just destroyed The Hylden Gate as his final act of Blood Omen 2™ must save his future by being sent into the past. He is forced into the task, and is not pleased that his plans to take over the world and be evil are once again being interrupted.

As Blood Omen 2™ came to a close, Kain had liberated an Imperial Sarafan Destroyer from the Wharves of Meridian, and used it to travel to the Hylden City and nullify the Hylden threat. As the battle between Kain and the Hylden General tipped to the vampire’s favour, the Hylden proclaimed that their imprisonment ensured their immortality, that Kain could never truly destroy them. Nonetheless, Kain impaled the Hylden General with the Soul Reaver and kicked his carcass into the collapsing Hylden Gate. As Kain left the structure, the gate collapsed completely with a mighty explosion.

Retracing his route through the Hylden City to the Imperial Sarafan Destroyer, the hundreds of human slaves in the city begged to be taken back to Nosgoth. Kain protested, but eventually gave in to their desperation and ordered them to board the ship with him. As he was about to sail, he noticed that some of the humans had brought aboard the still-unconscious body of Vorador, who’s presence in the Hylden City he had completely forgot about.

With the city abandoned, and the ship full, Kain ordered his human crew to set course back to the mainland.
