SECTION 14.221 (KAIN)

“Sarafan Lord’s Hired Help, Kain and the Cattle.”

EXT. SUPER SARAFAN DESTROYER

A number of wooden boats of this era have arrived from the land and enter an opened door in the massive ship’s cliff-like side, to dock..

INT. SUPER SARAFAN DESTROYER

A motley number of groups, men, women and creatures, depart their ships and stand before the Sarafan Guards, who seem to be very wary.

SARAFAN COMMANDER
We have orders to escort you to the bridge; the Sarafan Lord is expecting you.

The SARAFAN COMMADER and a number of his troops escort the group to the turbolift. They control their reaction to the new and amazing technology around them.

INT. SUPER SARAFAN DESTROYER – LIFT TO BRIDGE

The plexiglass lift zooms up at incredible speeds, through its transparent sides the thousands of metal decks flash past. There are about twenty-five people waiting for the lift to reach its destination, about five of which are the escort guard.

INT. SUPER SARAFAN DESTROYER – BRIDGE

The motley group depart the turbolift and approach the SARAFAN LORD who is waiting for them at the rear of the bridge. The view moves across, and standing by one of the command consoles, the SARAFAN ADMIRAL looks on in contempt. The SARAFAN COMMANDER approaches him.

SARAFAN ADMIRAL
(quietly)

Pffff. Vampire Hunters... We don’t need that scum.

SARAFAN COMMADER
Yes, sir.

The view moves back to the SARAFAN LORD who is striding from side to side in front of the motley group of Vampire Hunters.

FLOSSK, a human/reptile mutant (a partial victim of the Dark Eden project) with big bloodshot red eyes, DLUCKUSS and ZENGA, two battle-scarred vampire hunters wearing high-ranking but torn uniforms of Moebius’s mercenary army, SARAFAN STEVE, a mercenary fleshless Sarafan Armour Wraith, and BOBA BETT(Y), a woman legendarily known for her ability to disguise herself, as among other things, a vampire and lure vampires who come to her rescue to their doom (in the guise of BETTY THE VAMPIRE).

SARAFAN LORD
... there will be a substantial reward for the one who finds Kain and the stolen Imperial Sarafan Destroyer. You are free to use any methods necessary, but I want them alive.

The SARAFAN LORD raises a finger in front of BOBA BETT(Y) to emphasise this point to her.

SARAFAN LORD
No immolations!

BOBA BETT(Y)
As you wish...

EXT. KAIN’S IMPERIAL SARAFAN DESTROYER – IN CAVE

KAIN’S stolen ship remains hidden in the cavern behind the waterfall, beneath NUPRAPTOR’S retreat. KAIN and VORADOR enter the side of the large vessel.

INT. KAIN’S IMPERIAL SARAFAN DESTROYER - BRIDGE

Humans are darting about to and fro. Having discovered by now how many of the ship’s systems actually function, they all have their own tasks and duties.

KAIN and VORADOR stride onto the bride...

VORADOR
Its all so convoluted, Kain! From, not THE future, but A future. And you’ve come back because the version of you from A future has failed to save THE future.

KAIN is silent for a moment as the two walk towards EB standing at the front of the bridge, who seems to be the human given the most authority by KAIN in running his ship.

KAIN
Yes, that’s about it.

VORADOR
Kain, do you remember what I said, nay ordered!? Do you!? Meddling with the affairs of men.

KAIN
If I hadn’t, you’d be dead.

Another silence.

VORADOR
Point.

They stand before EB.

EB
Welcome back my lord. I hope your ship is to your liking.

KAIN
Things appear to be going well. We need any dissenters or trouble-causers Eb, the thirst is upon us.

VORADOR
Choosing the good and the bad from the cattle? For shame.

KAIN
Merely trying to keep an advantage, Vorador. This crew is doing an adequate job, I wouldn’t want to cull someone we might soon have a need for.

EB
My lords, I am afraid there are no such dissenters, we have all been effortlessly to keep the vessel running. But, if I may...

EB nods at someone at the other side of the bridge, and KAIN and VORADOR turn their heads to see two men carrying a large pot towards them. VORADOR’S nose rises, the older vampire caught the scent faster than KAIN.

VORADOR
Blood..!

EB
We thought that perhaps, my Lord, you would be hungry. Most people were willing to add a small contribution to sustain you.

KAIN looks at EB distrustfully.

KAIN
Why…?

EB
My lord?

KAIN
Why offer us this? You are human, shouldn’t you want us, your great enemy, the demons that hound you...

VORADOR
Hah!

KAIN
... to be vanquished? We do feed on your blood!

EB
My lord. If you’ll allow me to explain. You freed us from our former masters, and let us leave with you. As they perused, you found a way out of a situation in which we would have undoubtedly destroyed us all. You are our leader, who we need to protect and guide us to a better life. If we each give a little blood a day, then in total should you not now have more blood than you would normally consume?

KAIN pauses, trying to find a flaw in the argument.

He eventually looks to his side, and sees that VORADOR had no such compulsions and has just starting telekinetically feeding from the bowl.

KAIN just shrugs and telekinetically does the same himself.

EB watches on curiously, as do many of the other humans on the bridge. Eventually they finish, and brush the blood away from their lips with their arms.

VORADOR
Well bugger me backwards!

KAIN
I would express my surprise with a bit more subtlety Vorador, but I share the sentiment. That was utterly intoxicating...

VORADOR
So many... flavours. It was so... rich. I all my years Kain, I have never had a feast as glorious as that.

KAIN
Yes. So many different bloodlines...

KAIN looks at EB.

KAIN
Human... Eb, wasn’t it?

EB nods.

KAIN
Yes, Eb. Will you and your fellows be willing to make this a... regular occurrence? Thereby sustaining us... and affording you our protection. And dare I say it, no one dying.

EB breathes.

EB
My lord, we were hoping to the gods that you’d agree. We will gladly offer some blood to sustain you, after all, you saved us. Do you need any more?

KAIN
God no, I’m full. Vorador?

VORADOR
Couldn’t slurp another drop.

EB
Well, my lords, if you’ll excuse me, I’d like to break the news to the crew.

KAIN nods and EB leaves the two.

KAIN
Don’t meddle in the affairs of men, eh?

VORADOR
Don’t start.

KAIN
Indulging in your gift, eh?

VORADOR
Oh shut up, you turd.

KAIN laughs gently and realises that for the first time, he is seeing the first VORADOR smile. It was worth sacrificing the second VORADOR for the first one, that peace-loving incarnation from A future would never ever call anyone a turd. For this VORADOR it is second nature.
